In order to follow up last month's Mini Moan
, we thought it was our duty to expand on the 'Charlton Road Resurface Disaster' situation.
Firstly, we're happy to say that within minutes of our moan hitting the Internet, a lorry-load of tarmac was dumped at the junction of Charlton Road and Woollard lane, and true to form, whoever did this, did exactly that; 'dump it'. An unwieldly pile of loose stone that remained there for bloody ages. Only those with a 4x4 could get across this mini-mountain. Top job!
Throughout the length of the road the six-month-old tarmac and chippings have worn away completely in places, making the highway dangerous and unsightly. Road surface? It looks more like the surface of Mars. Gravel is strewn all over the carriageway alongside the bald patches, chipping car paint work and smashing windscreens. Frankly, it's losing coverage faster than Paul Daniel's head. This state of affairs is surely not acceptable to the tax paying, insured drivers of Keynsham. Only last week a car ran through the hedgerow near one of the notorious bald spots. 'Nuff said.
No shit, Sherlock!
When we contacted the Government body responsible for our 'road ruin', what we received was nothing short of a frosty response along the lines of: "Who? What? When? Sorry, nothing to do with us! Bye." No surprises there then. Such an embarrassing waste of money must fall on someone's shoulders, but true to Government form, nobody is keen to hold up a hand in responsibility. Maybe those who authorised this non-job don't actually use the road themselves.
We ask, what was the cost of this short-lived temporary bodge job? And why haven't the council demanded a resurface of the resurface? With all the extra traffic off to Chew Magna for the free car-parking
, this will only become a greater issue in the near future.
